Ballet Director

Emily Runkle was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and first began studying ballet at Ballet with Cindee Velle, intensively studying with Caryl Maxwell. For her senior year of high school she attended The Rock School for Dance Education in Philadelphia, where she was coached by former dancers of New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Hungarian National Ballet, Ballet Nacional De Caracas, and the Bolshoi Ballet. She then moved to Mississippi where she was a trainee with Ballet Magnificat, America’s premiere professional Christian ballet company from 2008-2009. She began her professional performing career at 18, and has danced soloist roles with Ballet Chesapeake, Misako Ballet, Merge Dance Company, and New York State Ballet, where she has performed works by Balanchine, Edward Stewart, and Eva Anderson, as well as the full length classics. She has also choreographed for both contemporary and classical companies and schools. Emily has been teaching at Project C since 2011 and believes in interpreting the art of ballet in a very specific, yet attainable way for all students.
